Unit 6: An excursion - Language Focus

The present progressive (with a future meaning) and be going to (Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn mang ý nghĩa tương lai và "be going to")

• Be + going to + V (nguyên mẫu): Chỉ một hành động đã có ý định làm hoặc một dự đoán.
  • Oh, your language is ready now. What time are you going to leave?
  • Look at those dark clouds! - Yes, it is going to rain soon.
• Be + V-ing: Chỉ hành động đã chuẩn bị kế hoạch sẵn, thường có thời gian cụ thể hoặc một kế hoạch lớn, quan trọng đã quyết định làm thường có thời gian xác định
  • We are having a party next sunday. Would you like to come?

--> Giải thích: đã mời người ta thì chuyện đó phải đã được chuẩn bị hết rồi.

• Be + V-ing vs. Be going to + V
  • Be + V-ing: chắc hơn, dấu hiệu có thời gian cụ thể, có lời mời (would you like...), chuyện quan trọng ( đám cưới, xây nhà, mua xe ...)
    • I am having my house built next week. (tuần tới tôi sẽ xây nhà)

Chú ý: WILL còn được sử dụng để chỉ sự dự đoán trong mệnh đề đi sau các động từ : think, know, be sure hoặc một dự đoán mà tự người nói nghĩ ra chứ trong bài không kể ra dấu hiệu. Đây chính là chỗ khó khi chúng ta phân biệt dự đoán nào là dùng WILL, dự đoán nào dùng BE GOING TO.

• Ví dụ
  • Don' worry about that. I am sure you will find it. (có am sure => dùng will)
  • Why don't you try on this dress? It will be nice on you. (đoán thôi mà không có nói gì về dấu hiệu ), so sánh với câu ví dụ:
  • Look at those dark clouds! (nhìn mây đen kìa! )
  • Yes, it is going to rain soon (ừ, trời sắp mưa rồi)

1. Tell me your plan, Lan. What (are you doing/will you do) this Saturday evening?

2. Mary (will get married/is getting married) next week.

3. There's a good play on TV tonight. (Will you/ Are you going to) watch it?

5. There are a lot of black clouds in the sky. It (will/ is going to) rain.

Put the verbs in brackets in the present progressive or be going to. (Chia động từ trong ngoặc ở thì Hiện tại tiếp diễn hoặc be going to.)

3. The cat is just behind the rat. It (catch) the latter.
