Alexander Graham Bell sinh ngày 3 tháng 3 năm 1847 ở Edinburgh. Ông là người Xcot-len mặc dù sau đó ông di cư sang Canada rồi sang Mỹ vào những năm 1870.

Ở Mỹ, ông đã làm việc với những người câm điếc ở trường Đại học Boston. Ít lâu sau đó, Bell bắt đầu thí nghiệm những cách truyền lời nói qua một khoảng cách dài. Thí nghiệm này của ông đã dẫn đến việc phát minh ra điện thoại.

Bell và viên trợ lý của ông, Thomas Watson, đã làm nhiều thí nghiệm và cuối cùng đã nảy ra ý sáng chế một dụng cụ mà lần đầu tiên họ giới thiệu vào năm 1876. Bell nói qua điện thoại: 'Anh Watson, lại đây nào. Tôi cần anh'. Đây là lời nhắn qua điện thoại đầu tiên.

Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was an expert in phonetics, the study of the sounds of languages. As a boy, Bell became interested in sounds and speech.

In 1870 the Bells decided to emigrate to America. They lived in Boston, where Alexander taught in a school for the deaf. There he began  experimenting with a machine to help the deaf hear. While experimenting with this machine, Bell had an idea. Why not  use electricity to send the human voice from one place to another? Bell began work on a new invention.
