Cách đây hàng thế kỉ ở Hy Lạp cổ đại có một người tên là Antipater thành Sido đã biên soạn một danh mục cho biết về bảy kì quan của thế giới là gì. Bảy kì quan này bao gồm Vườn treo Babylon ở Iraq ngày nay, tượng thần Zeus ở Hy Lạp và Kim tự tháp Cheops ở Ai Cập. Kim tự tháp này là kì quan duy nhất bạn có thể thấy được cho đến tận bây giờ.

Nhiều người tuyên bố rằng còn có nhiều kì quan khác nữa mà người Hy Lạp cổ đại không biết đến. Những kì quan này bao gồm Vạn Lý Trường Thành của Trung Quốc, đền thờ Taj Mahal ở Ấn Độ và Angkor Wat ở Cam pu chia.

Angkor Wat thật sự được biết đến như một kì quan vì nó là ngôi đền lớn nhất thế giới. Ngôi đền này được xây vào khoảng năm 1100 để tôn thờ vị thần đạo Hindu, nhưng hơn 3 thế kỉ sau đó nó trở thành trung tâm tín ngưỡng Phật giáo. Vùng đất xung quanh đền, Angkor Thom đã từng là thành phố thủ đô của hoàng gia.

Vào đầu thế kỉ 15, những kẻ thống trị Khmer đến Phnom Penh và Angkor chìm trong im lặng. Giờ đây nó là điểm hấp dẫn khách du lịch.

Well, here I am in Peru on our South American tour. We got to Lima five days ago. We had a good journey. It took three days by bus, but we saw a lot of things on the way. We didn’t do much for the first two days, as a couple of the other guys were ill. We spent most of the time on the beach. (They are OK now!)

On Wednesday, we came up to the mountains, and yesterday we went to the old Inca city of Machu Picchu and did some sightseeing. It was fantastic! We didn’t have a lot of time there, but we saw everything and I took a lot of photos.
